What To Do When Someone Dies

Clear, practical guidance for the first hours and days. You can call us at any stage — you do not need to have everything organised first.

Death at Home

If the death was expected, the family will normally need to contact the appropriate medical professional before contacting the funeral director. Once that step is complete, we can advise on bringing your loved one into our care and the arrangements that follow.

Death in Hospital

The hospital bereavement team will guide you through the initial formalities. You can then nominate J Waite & Son as your funeral director and we will assist with the funeral arrangements.

Death in a Care Home

Care-home staff will normally assist with the immediate process. Families can nominate J Waite & Son as their chosen funeral director.

Unexpected Death

Unexpected deaths may involve the police and/or the coroner. This does not necessarily indicate anything suspicious. We can explain the process sensitively and help once the authorities confirm the next steps.

Death Away From Home

If your loved one has died elsewhere in the UK or further afield, contact us for guidance on bringing them back to Menston into our care.

You do not need to understand everything before calling us. We are here to guide you through the next steps.
